Name: Amber
Diagnosis: Medulloblastoma
Home State: New Mexico
When Amber was five years old, her mother knew something was seriously wrong with her daughter when she began leaning sideways and walking oddly. After a trip to an emergency room in the family’s home state of New Mexico, a CAT scan revealed Amber had medulloblastoma, a brain tumor.
Wanting the best possible treatment for Amber, the family traveled across the country to be at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. “We came looking for hope,” said Amber’s Mother, Monica. “I was overwhelmed with what I found. St. Jude took care of everything, so I could take care of my daughter.”
At St. Jude, Amber and her family found more than just nurses and doctors. They found friends and confidantes. “They all know Amber’s name and are so excited to see us when we come for our check ups,” Monica said.
During Amber’s year-long stay at the hospital, she underwent chemotherapy, surgery, radiation and had a stem cell transplant. The treatments were successful and she now visits the hospital every six months for check ups. She enjoys singing, coloring and playing on her computer.
