Name: Jenna

Diagnosis: brain stem tumor

Home state: Florida

John and Nikki grew worried about their 12-year-old daughter, Jenna, after noticing her eyes starting to cross. They took her to the doctor, and further testing revealed the worst. In May 2005, Jenna received a diagnosis of a brain stem tumor.

Jenna immediately came to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, where she began an aggressive treatment of chemotherapy and radiation. She had chemo seven days a week and radiation five days a week but experienced no major side affects.

“When we first walked through the doors, we were overwhelmed. Everybody here is so nice and makes you feel so at home,” said John. “It was unbelievable, like a whole new world for us.”

Despite undergoing treatment for a life-threatening disease, Jenna maintains a positive and selfless attitude. “She made a wish and wished that the other kids would get better,” said John. “Then she asked God, if he had time maybe he could help her too.”

Jenna has finished treatment, and doctors say the now 13-year-old is doing well. She enjoys listening to country music and loves chocolate. When she grows up, Jenna aspires to be a pediatric nurse.
