Name: Alex
Diagnosis: medulloblastoma
Home state: North Carolina

Sixteen-month-old Alex seemed to be the picture of health until he began vomiting and was unable to walk straight. His parents rushed him to the doctor’s office where an MRI revealed the worst. Alex had a brain tumor called medulloblastoma.

After an emergency surgery, Alex’s doctor referred him to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. “St. Jude gave us hope we thought we never had,” said Alex’s father Tom. “You could look all over the world and never find another place like this.”

At St. Jude, Alex completed an aggressive treatment plan in June 2005 which included chemotherapy and radiation. He returns to the hospital every three months for checkups.

Now 2 years old, Alex is an energetic and caring little boy. “It really amazes me that he is so strong,” said Vanessa, Alex’s mom. “I think he is stronger than I am.”
